A year on from my first post about drying logs for a log burning stove, and I have some more data. I continued with the same method until early September 2016. The experiment ended in September 2016, and the logs ended up in the fire.

In January 2017, a petition was created at the UK Parliament petitions site with the title Prevent Donald Trump from making a State Visit to the United Kingdom. The petition became very popular, and by the time I noticed, it had 1.3M signatures. I took at look at the petition and noticed that the signature count was changing. There is some Javascript in the page that polls a JSON file that returns the current signature count. The DOM is then updated with the new count.

Please, just less of it. To my ear, there are too many long (~10 minute) magazine articles on the arts and media, some days you even have several. My suggestion is to limit these type of pieces to one a week. Will Gompertz and Rebecca Jones could be given non-speaking roles.

Following up on my first article on photography through a telescope I will share some more observations on how I have improved my skills at taking pictures on my mobile phone through the eye piece of a telescope. The telescope is a small spotting scope with a 65mm objective lens and a 20x to 60x zoom eye piece. My mobile phone is a Motorola Moto G (2nd generation) with a 8M pixel camera and a 1 -to-4x digital zoom.
After only a few months of life, as of March 2016, I have reconfigured this site to use HTTPS using the relatively new Let's Encrypt free certificate service. Certus Technology is looking to encrypt all it's web sites, both public and internal, and we are experimenting with the Let's Encrypt service. A few points have come out of this experiment.
I have recently acquired a small telescope and have been experimenting with taking photographs through the eyepiece. The telescope is a small spotting scope with a 65mm objective lens and a 20x to 60x zoom eye piece. The main focus of my attention is a pair of peregrine falcons that look like they are going to nest on the St George's Church tower, at the University of Sheffield. Certus Technology have an office in the Innovation Centre, Portobello, in Sheffield across the road from The Diamond building, part of the University of Sheffield. The building was constructed on the site of the former Jessop Hospital between June 2013 and December 2015. My office block has a window that looks out over the site, and for 2½ years I took a photo from the same window.

I have sometimes wondered how long I need to leave sawn and chopped logs in my shed before I should burn them in my rather nice Clearview log stove. Rather than going to the trouble of buying a moisture meter, I have devised a simple log weighing experiment. I expect that if the log stops losing mass, then it is dry enough to burn.
